Our head brewer, Phil Evans, started all grain brewing as a keen home brewer in the mid 1980s. In those days there was very limited home brew kit available and other household items would be modified and used as brewing equipment. The passion for brewing never left but it was sometime before the leap to professional, commercial brewer happened.
After a lot of encouragement from friends and family Hope Brewery was finally formed in October 2013, making use of an outbuilding in our back garden in Stanford le Hope, Essex. Originally we had a 1/4 brewer’s barrel set-up which produced just a single 9 gallon firkin with each brew session! Things soon moved on and the demand for Hope beer saw a new 2.5 barrel plant installed in November 2014 increasing our brewlength tenfold. A year later and a larger premises was soon needed so we moved to an industrial estate in Little Thurrock in January 2016. This also saw yet another upgrade to the brew plant and an increase in brew capacity to 6 bbl. We may have grown but we still hand craft every last drop! We are proud to be an Essex producer and hope you will enjoy our real ales.
